Laguna cop killed in drug shootout

TWO suspected drug dealers in Laguna, including a local police officer, were killed in separate drug operations early yesterday morning.

In a report to Police Regional Office 4-A director Chief Superintendent Edward E. Carranza,  Laguna Police Provincial Office director Senior Supt. Eleazar P. Matta identified the slain suspects as Police Officer 3 Jennyson Serrano, 45, detailed at the Laguna PPO residing in Pagsanjan; and Fernando Sevilla, of Cabuyao City.

“Both became targets of our anti-narcotics operatives amid information from concerned citizens regarding their involvement in big-time shabu trafficking activities in the province which was thoroughly validated by our intelligence officers,” Matta said.

Matta added that PO3 Serrano was killed in a shootout with members of the Laguna PPOs Provincial Intelligence Branch/Drug Enforcement Unit and the Sta. Cruz municipal police Station in a gunbattle at Sitio Ilang-Ilang, Bgy. Bubukal around 8:30 a.m. yesterday.

Recovered from the cop’s possession were a loaded pistol and seven plastic sachets of shabu worth  at least P648,000.

Meanwhile second suspect Sevilla, a resident of Purok 5, Mabuhay City Subdivision in Bgy. Mamatid, Cabuyao City, was killed in an encounter inside Block 20, Lot 1, Phase 3 of the same subdivision around 1:50 a.m..

Sevilla had just sold P500 worth of shabu to an undercover officer of the Cabuyao DEU when he sensed the entrapment.

Recovered from him were a sizeable amount of shabu, the P500 narked bill and a loaded .38 revolver.
