Laguna cops kill 4 in 2-day firefights

FOUR armed suspects in drug trafficking and car theft were killed in separate firefights with members of the Laguna Police Provincial Office on Friday and yesterday, a report to Police Regional Office 4-A director, Chief Superintendent Edward E. Carranza said.

Laguna police director, Senior Supt. Eleazar Matta said one of the suspects identified as Oscar Sarip, a former barangay ‘tanod’ in Bgy. Dos, Calamba City was killed after he engaged undercover officers of the Calamba City Police Station Drug Enforcement Unit in a gunbattle when he sensed he was being entrapped at 12:20 a.m. yesterday.

Matta said that recovered from the slain suspect’s possession were one loaded caliber .38 revolver, a plastic sachet containing suspected shabu and a marked P500 bill paid to him by a poseur during the buy-bust operation in Bgy. 2.

The official said the Calamba City police headed by Supt. Harold Depositar launched the sting amid persistent reports regarding the illegal drug trafficking activities of the suspect.

Around 3 in the morning yesterday, Calamba City policemen also shot and killed a still unidentified man who stole the motorcycle of one John Paul Ramirez, a resident of Cabuyao City.

Matta said the suspect and a companion at gunpoint stole the yellow Honda Beat motorcycle of Ramirez who promptly sought the attention of patrolling policemen.

A hot pursuit operation led in the encounter in Purok 3 in Bgy. San Cristobal. Seized from the slain suspect was a cal. .38 revolver with three fired cartridges and two live ammunition.

The third suspect was gunned down in a clash with policemen in Bgy. Gulod in Cabuyao City at 6:15 a.m. yesterday.

Matta said local policemen were informed of the suspicious presence of the suspect near the All-Day Convenience Store in the area by a security guard. The guard said he was about to caution the man when the latter immediately fled on board a motorcycle.

Officers who pursued the suspect said they were forced to return fire at the latter when he stopped his motorcycle and started shooting at them. The slain suspect who was described as about 30-35 years old and wearing a gray t-shirt, brown shorts and a pair of slippers yielded a loaded cal. .38 revolver.      

The fourth suspect identified only as alias ‘Allan’ died in a clash with policemen in Sitio Mangahan in Bgy. Dita in Sta. Rosa City at 3 a.m. Friday.

Matta said local policemen under Supt. Eugene Orate and Chief Inspector Reynaldo Vitto conducted the buy-bust operation which turned bloody when the suspect resisted arrest and began shooting.
