TWO suspected drug pushers were killed by police operatives in two separate operations conducted in Cabuyao City and Sta. Cruz, Laguna, on Monday and yesterday morning.
Laguna provincial director Col. Eleazar Matta said the slain suspect in Sta. Cruz was identified as Manolito Cortez, 30 to 40 years old, of Sitio Sampaguita, Bgy. Pagsawitan.
The operation was conducted at 12:45 yesterday morning by Sta. Cruz police that resulted in an armed confronation.
Initial investigation disclosed that the transaction transpired outside the suspect’s house and after selling a sachet containing suspected “shabu” for P500, the suspect sensed he was dealing with a police officer and immediately ran into his house when the backup cop arrived.
When the suspect was about to enter his house, he suddenly shot the police officer several times, prompting the latter to return fire while taking cover.
The back-up police officer and the poseur-buyer immediately brought the suspect to Laguna Medical Centre but he was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

In Cabuyao City, one Aquilino Catimbang of Calamba City, Laguna, was killed in an armed confrontation in Purok 3, Bgy. Mamatid, Monday evening.
Investigation disclosed the sale of a Colt 1911A caliber 45 pistol and a magazine in exchange for the buy-bust money amounting to P15,000 when the suspect sensed that he was dealing with police officers.
The suspect drew his gun and shot the cops who returned fire and killed him.
The suspect sustained a gunshot wound in the chest while his cohort was able to escape onboard a motorcycle.
