Leyte dad jailed for drug trafficking

A municipal councilor in Leyte on Friday was arrested by operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency during a buy-bust operation which yielded 30 grams of shabu worth P240,000, PDEA chair, Director General Wilkins M. Villanueva said.

Cesar Bergula, a municipal councilor of Babatngon, a 4th-class municipality in Leyte was arrested during the sting conducted by members of the PDEA Regional Office 8 and the Leyte Police Provincial Office and Babatngon Municipal Police Station in Barangay District 4  at 6:40 a.m. Friday, said the PDEA chair.

Villanueva said Bergula is considered a ‘high-value target’ due to his position in the government.

The suspect yielded the drugs and the P5,000 worth of buy-bust money.

An administrative case for serious grave misconduct and conduct unbecoming of a public official will also be filed against the suspect. The case is punishable by dismissal from government service and perpetual disqualification from holding any public office.
