CAMP Gen. Miguel Malvar, Batangas -- Police the other day reported that a man was killed while his companion was able to escape during an entrapment operation in Laurel town, provincial police PIO chief Senior Insp. Hazel P. Luma-ang said.
Investigators said that at 10:05 p.m. on Oct. 16, 2018, members of the Laurel Municipal Police Station, together with the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) Batangas Team, conducted an entrapment operation against a certain Daniel Hernandez and one unidentified suspect in Bgy. Ticub, which resulted in an armed encounter when the suspects noticed that they were transacting with police operatives and fired their guns, hitting an officer, who was wearing a bullet-proof vest, in the chest.
The officers returned fire, hitting the unidentified suspect in the body while Hernandez fled.
Police rushed the suspect to Laurel Municipal Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by an attending physician.
Three fired cartridge casings for cal. 9mm and a cal. 40, two deformed slugs, a cal. 38 Armscor and a Honda Wave motorcycle were recovered at the scene.
