Magnitude 5.5 quake shakes Occidental Mindoro

A MAGNITUDE 5.5 earthquake yesterday shook Occidental Mindoro.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the tremor,  which was tectonic in origin, struck west of Rizal town at 9:05 a.m. yesterday.

The temblor had a depth of six kilometers.

Intensity 4 was felt in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro.

Intensity 3 was recorded in Calapan City Oriental Mindoro; Lipa City, Batangas and  Malay, Aklan while intensity 2 in Tagaytay City, Malinao, Aklan Sebaste and Culasi, Antique, Calatagan and San Nicolas, Batangas and Manila.

Intensity 1 was felt in Talisay, Batangas and Dolores and Mauban, Quezon.
Aftershocks were recorded but there was no damage to property reported.

On April 22, strong quakes hit Luzon and Visayas.

A  6.1-magnitude earthquake, with its epicenter in Zambales, killed 16 people in Pampanga. The next day, a 6.5 magnitude tremor jolted Eastern Samar.
