Anti-cybercrime

A 27-YEAR-old resident of Cabadbaran City in Agusan del Norte was arrested for alleged ‘sextortion’ by anti-cybercrime agents of the Philippine National Police during an entrapment operation inside a local motel, the Journal Group learned yesterday.

Suspect John Lloyd Gamotin was arrested inside the Boracay Lodge located at Purok 6 West in Bgy. Calibunan, Cabadbaran City last Wednesday following a complaint from his ex-girlfriend, said PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group director, Brigadier General Dennis P. Agustin.

It turned out that the woman filed a complaint against the suspect after he asked her to have sex with him again with the threat that he will upload their previous sex video on Facebook should she ignore his request.

Agustin said members of the Regional Anti-Crime Unit 13 led by Colonel Fidel Fortaleza, with the assistance of the local police arrested the suspect  when he showed up at the motel to meet the complainant.

The suspect is  facing charges for grave coercion and violation of Republic Act 9995 or the Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act of 2009 and RA 9262 or the Violence against Women and their Children Act of 2004 in relation to RA 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.

Agustin said the suspect was also charged with resistance and disobedience to a person in authority after he resisted arrest and tried to escape from the police team.
