PALAYAN City -- A jobless man was nabbed by members of the provincial and city police during a raid on his house that resulted in the seizure of several handguns and ammunition, including hand grenades, Wednesday morning.
Acting Nueva Ecija provincial police director Senior Supt. Leon Victor Z. Rosete identified the arrested suspect as Rejan Aligem, 41, of Bgy. Doña Josefa, this city.
His arrest was carried out by virtue of a search warrant for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition issued by Palayan City Executive Judge Emelita DC. Miranda-Portillo, of Branch 40.
City police head Supt. Armando F. Muena said his men searched the premises of the suspect’s house at 6:30 a.m. and yielded positive results.
Seized were a cal. .45 pistol with three magazine assemblies, three cal. .22 revolvers, one fragmentation grenade, a stun grenade, an air gun, a gun replica with magazine assembly and 57 ammunition.
Muena said violations of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act and of RA 9516, or illegal possession of explosives have been filed against the suspect before the City Prosecutor’s Office.
“This proves that the Nueva Ecija police are working religiously in eradicating this unrestricted keeping of firearms and explosives that can destroy countless lives,” said Rosete.
