Man resists warrant officers, dies in gunbattle

CAMP Gen. Miguel Malvar, Batangas -- A man was killed in a police encounter during the service of a search warrant in Bgy. Pook, Balayan town, provincial police PIO chief Senior Insp. Kerwin Amor Umali Cabrales said on Wednesday.

A report to Batangas police director Senior Supt. Edwin A. Quilates by Balayan Municipal Police Station head Chief Insp. Jaime S. Pederio Jr. said the suspect who resisted was identified as Reynaldo Cahayon Cabungcal.

Pederio said they serve the search warrant at around 2:50 a.m. on December 12 against the suspect in his residence.

However, the suspect pulled out a gun (a cal.45. pistol) and fired at the lawmen, triggering an armed encounter, killing the former.

Police rushed the suspect to hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival by attending physician Dra. Phibby Macanlalay.

Police recovered the cal. .45 pistol used by the suspect, a magazine loaded with seven live ammunition, an extra magazine loaded with seven live bullets, an empty magazine, two fired cartridge casings for the same caliber and six fractions of fired cartridge casings for M-16 rifle at the scene, said Pederio.
