The director of the Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) yesterday ordered an intense manhunt operation against four crime suspects who escaped from the police detention facility in Mabalacat City last March 10.
Brig. Gen. Rhodel O. Sermonia tasked the Pampanga provincial police to spearhead the manhunt against Teejay Castro, Abelardo Miclat, Alberto Laxamana, and Alfie Dela Cruz, all of legal age.
The police chief of this city, Lt. Col. Eduardo Guevarra, was already relieved for command responsibility after initial investigation showed that his subordinate, Staff Sgt. Jeffrey Luna, was negligent in guarding the detainee.
Luna told investigators that he was assisting the duty desk officer around 2:45 a.m. last March 10 because of the volume of incoming complainants. He then heard screaming from the detention facility. When he checked, the four men were already gone.
Ocular inspection showed that the escapees used a metal saw to cut the steel bars of the window and jumped outside.
Castro was arrested for illegal possession of firearm and ammunition; Miclat and Laxamana were arrested for illegal drugs; while Dela Cruz was facing charges for violation of the law protecting women and children.
Sermonia said Staff Sgt. Luna will be charged for negligence that resulted in the escape of the suspects.
He said the available resources of the regional and provincial police will be used to bring the escaped suspects back in jail.
