A MEMBER of the Philippine Marines was killed while another was severely wounded in an encounter with communist terrorists on Sunday in Sultan Kudarat.
Identities of the victims were not yet disclosed as of press time.
Joint Task Force Central commander Brig. Gen. Cirilito E. Sobejana said the encounter occurred at 2:50 p.m. in Sitio Sinapsap, Bgy. Sangay, Kalamansig.
He said troops from Marine Battalion Landing Team-2 were conducting security operation in the area following reports that the terrorists were in the area.
Upon reaching the place, a firefight occurred that lasted for 30 minutes.
During the encounter, a marine trooper suffered a serious injury and died at a hospital in Cotabato City while another was wounded.
“The troops of Joint Task Force Central will relentlessly fight the terrorist groups that usually attacks peaceful communities,” Sobejana said.
“On behalf of the Joint Task Force Central, I also condole to the bereaved family, and our hero soldier for offering his life in fighting terrorism,” Sobejana added.
