A still unidentified gunman shot to death a barangay captain in San Fernando, Masbate shortly after noon Wednesday before fleeing, a Police Regional Office 5 report said yesterday.
The suspect armed with a handgun and without any provocation opened fire on Aristoteles Tormo, the chairman of Bgy. Resurreccion in San Fernando municipality as the victim was on his way home at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday.
As a result, the victim died on the spot. PRO5 director, Brigadier General Arnel B. Escobal said the San Fernando Municipal Police Station is still investigating the incident and determining if it is an election-related incident or merely a killing triggered by personal motive.
Escobal said he has also ordered a massive hunt for two men who shot and wounded two people in Sitio Cawayan, Bgy. Bolaobalite in Tinambac, Camarines Sur around 8:40 p.m. Wednesday.
An investigation showed that victims Michael dela Cruz,36, a company driver and his crew Jonathan Grefaldia,28, both residents of Bgy. Mananao in Tinambac were on their way to Tinambac proper on board their service vehicle when the suspects, one of them identified as Francisco Sta. Ana fired at them using a caliber .45 pistol.
Escobal said that the victims who were shot four times were taken to a Naga City hospital for treatment. He said that responding policemen recovered a spent cal. .45 cartridge and a .45 slug at the scene. The Bicol police director said that the motive behind the shooting is still being investigated as of press time.
