A SUSPECTED motorcycle thief was killed in a gunbattle with policemen in Meycauayan City in Bulacan on Sunday, the latest armed suspect to be slain in reported shootouts with local police officers conducting anti-criminality operations in the province.
A report to Police Regional Office 3 director, Brigadier General Rhodel O. Sermonia identified the slain suspect as Darwin Nacilla, 25.
According to Bulacan Police Provincial Office director, Colonel Emma M. Libunao, the suspect was positively identified as the man who stole a Mio motorcycle from a resident of Barangay Perez in Meycauayan City at around 12:25 a.m.
Libunao said that the man complained he was about to buy food in their neighborhood when the suspect at gunpoint stole his motorbike. Immediately, the man sought the assistance of the local police which launched a dragnet to intercept the suspect.
The official said that officers who were able to catch up with the suspect were forced to fire when he pulled out a concealed gun and shot one officer who luckily was saved by his bullet-proof vest.
Recovered from the slain suspect’s possession were one caliber .38 revolver with three spent cartridges and two live ammunition, one heat-sealed plastic sachet containing suspected shabu and seven strips of aluminum foil.
Also recovered at the scene were the stolen Yamaha Mio Sporty motorbike.
Last week, two armed drug trafficking suspects were killed in shootouts with undercover agents in San Jose del Monte City while 15 others were arrested in separate anti-narcotics operations in Bulacan province.
