MILF man held in shabu sting

A MEMBER of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front was arrested by agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency during a buy-bust operation in Zamboanga del Sur last week, PDEA chair, Director General Aaron N. Aquino reported yesterday.

Suspect Carnain Hamid alias ‘Carlo’ was arrested after he sold shabu to an undercover officer in Purok 4, Barangay Buyogan West in Kumalarang, Zamboanga del Sur.

Aquino said members of the PDEA Regional Office 9, with the assistance of the local police recovered three heat-sealed plastic sachets containing some 2.5 grams of shabu worth P14,000, a caliber .45 pistol with a magazine containing six live ammunition and the buy-bust money from the suspect.

Another suspected drug dealer in Mindanao identified as Sarampatah Amin alias ‘Patah,’ described as a member of the ‘Omega Drug Group’ was arrested in an entrapment operation at the 2nd floor of the Isabela City wet market in Basilan.

Aquino said the suspect yielded seven grams of the so-called ‘poor man’s cocaine’ valued at nearly P48,000, a plastic sachet containing eight folded aluminum foils and the marked money paid to him by the poseur.

Both suspects are now facing non-bailable charges for sale and possession of dangerous drugs under Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. A separate case for violation of RA 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013 was also filed against Hamid, the official said.
