POLICE Regional Office 4-B director Chief Supt. Tomas Apolinario Jr. yesterday placed the entire Mimaropa police force on full alert to ensure 100-percent attendance of his men in addressing threats posed by criminals and New People’s Army insurgents during the Yuletide Season.
The PRO4-B director said the massive alert status is also aimed at helping protect the local populace and foreign and domestic tourists expected to flock to world-class beach resorts and other tourist destinations in the region, which comprises the provinces of Mindoro Oriental, Mindoro Occidental, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan.
“I have directed all my unit commanders to further intensify their anti-criminality and internal security operations by tightening their security measures in their respective area of responsibilities. Right now, all leaves and breaks of Mimaropa police personnel have been canceled,” Apolinario said.
The official said they are also getting support from barangay peacekeeping action teams, non-government organizations and local government units in securing the region apart from providing public assistance and traffic management in major thoroughfares.
Apolinario said police assistance hubs have been established in all airports, seaports and transport terminals in Mimaropa to help assist commuters.
The intensified police operations, which covers all “soft targets,” including bus stations, airports, piers, shopping malls, markets, churches and other places of convergence, will last until the early part of January.
