MORE wanted New People’s Army rebels and other crime offenders were hauled to jail by agents of the Philippine National Police Intelligence Group (PNP-IG) in a series of manhunt operations last week, a report to PNP chief, General Archie Francisco F. Gamboa said yesterday.
“The arrests were part of our intensified anti-terrorism and anti-criminality campaign as ordered by Gen. Gamboa,” said PNP-IG director, Brigadier General Edgar S. Monsalve.
Monsalve said that last week, PNP-IG operatives caused the surrender of seven New People’s Army rebels and the capture of another identified as Nestor Amora who was arrested by members of the Regional Intelligence Unit 3.
RIU3 operatives headed by Colonel Nestor Babagay also facilitated the surrender of seven NPA regular members who were identified only thru their aliases ‘Ka Dante,’ Ka Shane/Chin, Ka Jake, Ka Ar-ar/Jabar, Ka Bobot, Ka Lucring and one Ka Bill’ last week.
The seven yielded to government authorities following negotiations with members of the RIUs 3, 10 and 14.
The PNP is one of the members of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict or NTF-ELCAC which was created on the strength of President Duterte’s Executive Order No. 70.
“We are continuing to engage with all our partners and the citizenry in our effort to help end the decades-long communist insurgency in the country. We really need a ‘whole-of-nation approach’ to solve this problem,” said Monsalve.
Apart from helping end the NPA insurgency, the PNP-IG is also busy going after most wanted persons in the country. Last week, Monsalve said that his men accounted for 10 wanted persons, one of them included in the Regional Most Wanted List, eight in the Provincial Most Wanted List and another in the Municipal Most Wanted List.
Among those arrested were murder suspect Andres Repuluna, one of Calabarzon region’s most wanted persons who was captured by RIU4-A operatives last Thursday; Roger Ompar, a murder suspect tagged as one of Samar province’s most wanted men; Jofran Cabaluna, a murder suspect who is considered as one of Cebu’s most wanted persons; Benjamin Calo, a multiple rape suspect tagged as the no. 1 most wanted person in Leyte province;
