A WANTED car thief and drug dealer in Cagayan Valley was killed in a gunbattle with policemen who tracked him down in Cauayan City in Isabela province last Thursday, Police Regional Office 2 director, Brigadier General Debold M. Sinas said yesterday.
Suspect Noel Guzman, a resident of Ugac Sur, Tuguegarao City was identified as the armed man who stole a red Yamaha Sniper 150cc motorcycle owned by one Armand Madriaga while it was parked along Research Road in Minante 1, Cauayan City at 12:30 a.m. Thursday, the PRO2 director said.
Espino said shortly after Madriaga reported the incident to the Cauyan City Police Station, officers of the station, joined by members of the PRO2 Regional Intelligence Division immediately conducted a hot pursuit operation to recover the stolen motorcycle and arrest the thief.
The official said that officers later spotted a man wearing a black and white t-shirt and a pair of blue pants and shoes who fitted the description of the motorcycle thief. He said the suspect later identified as Guzman was spotted in the act of detaching the plate number of the motorcycle which he parked beside the road.
When the lawmen tried to accost the suspect, he reportedly drew a concealed firearm and fired at the officers who promptly sought cover before returning fire killing the suspect on the spot.
Espino said an improvised caliber .45 revolver with five live ammunition and two heat-sealed plastic sachets containing suspected shabu were recovered from the possession of the slain suspect along with the stolen motorcycle.
