Motorbikes collide, 1 dies, 5 hurt

A man was killed while five others, including his two sons, were wounded in a vehicular accident involving two motorcycles the other day in  Coron, Palawan.

Police Regional Office (PRO) Mimaropa  spokesman Police Lt. Col. Aries Faltado identified the fatality as Bernie Evangelista Macaranas, 36, married, laborer and resident of Sitio Tulawa, Barangay Guadalupe,  Coron, Palawan.

Taken to Coron District Hospital were Bernie’s sons Vince , 8, and  Aljur.

Also taken to the hospital were Joel Miral Amorganda, 24, driver of another motorcycle and his back-riders Arvie  Amorganda Sr., 58, and Armvie Iral, 21, both residents of  Barangay Sto Nino,  Busuanga, Palawan.

Reports reaching Camp Crame said that the accident  occurred at around 5:20 p.m.  along the national highway of Sitio Carmelita, Barangay Guadalupe, Coron, Palawan.

Initial investigation showed that Bernie Macaranas was driving his Rusi  motorcycle with his two sons as back-riders on their way home when they collided head-on with another motorcycle driven by  Joel Amorganda with his father and brother  as back-riders.

The report said Macaranas was driving too fast, encroached the opposite lane and collided with the  SYM motorcycle of Amorganda.

Because of the strong impact, Macaranas died on the spot while his sons sustained injuries.

The Amorgandas also sustained severe injuries and were taken to the hospital.
