December 12, 2018

CAMP Gen. Miguel Malvar, Batangas -- A suspected motorcycle thief was killed while his companion escaped during a firefight with policemen in Sta. Teresita town, provincial police PIO chief Senior Insp. Kerwin Amor Umali Cabrales said on Tuesday.

A report to Batangas police director Senior Supt. Edwin A. Quilates by Sta. Teresita Municipal Police Station chief Senior Insp. Dave Alex R. Mercado identified the slain suspect only as alias “Billy”.

Mercado said they conducted a police operation to entrap the suspect trying to sell a stolen motorcycle.

However, ‘Billy” and his partner sensed that they were dealing with an undercover agent and immediately drew their firearms and fired at the latter, which prompted them to return fire.

The suspect was fatally hit. He was rushed by police to Taal Polymedic Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival by attending physician Dra. Hilda Marie Villostas at 1:55 a.m.

The unidentified companion of the slain suspect was able to escape on foot.

Mercado said they recovered a black and red Honda Wave motorcycle, seven empty shell casings for caliber .9mm, an Ingram cal. 9mm machine pistol and an empty shell for cal. 5.56 at the scene.
