Notorious drug trader killed, 31 arrested in WestMinda raids

WESTERN Mindanao policemen  shot dead a heavily-armed drug trafficker and arrested 31 crime suspects, Police Regional Office 9 director Brigadier General Froilan F. Quidilla announced yesterday.

In a report to Philippine National Police chief General Oscar D. Albayalde, the official said   Rapsan Gumandol was killed in a shootout with undercover officers in Campo Mucas in Salug, Zamboanga del Norte Sunday afternoon.

Quidilla said  members of the PRO9 Regional Mobile Force Battalion and the Regional Drug Enforcement Unit, in coordination with the Salug Municipal Police Station conducted the buy-bust  targeting Gumandol, dismissed policeman Sacur Aradani,33, and one Michael Uy.

However, the suspects  sensed the entrapment  and engaged the officers in a shootout which led in the killing of Gumandol and the arrest of Aradani, a resident of Campo Mucas.

Quidilla said  Uy, who was believed to have been wounded in the gunfight, managed to escape arrest and is still being hunted.

The PRO9 director said Gumandol yielded a loaded caliber .45 pistol while Aradani was found in possession of a hand grenade and four heat-sealed plastic sachets containing suspected shabu.

The other 13 drug trafficking suspect include a Land Transportation Employee-turned- high-value drug target in Zamboanga City.

Quidilla said  Jasim Go Abdua alias “Bembo,” 50,  of Lower Calarian, Zamboanga City  was arrested by the local police in Baliwasan Seaside after he sold an estimated P170,000 worth of shabu to an undercover officer. He yielded 16 heat-sealed plastic sachets containing shabu  and the boodle money topped by two marked P100 bills during the entrapment  triggered by a complaint to the PRO9 director’s hotline “I-Sumbong Mo, I-Action Ko.”

The others who yielded a   shabu, drug paraphernalia and marked money were   Cris Gaganting, 40, of Bgy. Tetuan, Zamboanga City; Rogelio Jimenez Jr., 44, of Purok Mauswagon in Barangay Poblacion, Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur; Francisco Molenyo, 43, of a Bagong Lipunan, Triplet Drive in Bgy. San Jose, Zamboanga City; Marbin Jumah,43, of Sitio Asinan, Bgy. Kasanyangan, Zamboanga City; Mestiso Sabdani,31, of Kasalamatan Drive also in Bgy. Kasanyangan;  Argie Tayasan,31, of Claro Drive, Bgy. Camino Nuevo in Zamboanga City;  Jalali Muarip,44,  of Purok 2, Bgy. Maligue in Isabela City, Basilan;

Ricardo Tabañera Jr.,45, of Bgy. Sta. Barbara, Malamawi Island, Isabela City; Emilio Fuentes,48, of Purok Subis, Brgy. Sumadat, Dumalinao, Zamboanga del Sur; James Mark Luna,25, and Eduardo Malaga ,40, both of Zamboanga City; and Rey Sugabo,45, of Sitio Karayagan, Bgy. Upper Bag-ong Tudela, Josefina, Zamboanga del Sur

Quidilla said the suspects are now facing non-bailable charges for sale and possession of dangerous drugs under Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

The PRO9 director said the other suspects were arrested based on warrants of arrest for  other offenses including robbery, child abuse, theft, violation of RA 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013, attempted homicide,  incestuous rape, rape, estafa, frustrated murder, acts of lasciviousness, frustrated murder and theft.
