A 73-YEAR-OLD woman and her two grandsons on Monday died in a fire that destroyed a house and a commercial establishment in Compostela Valley now called Davao de Oro.

Police identified the fatalities as Mariarita Mag-aso and her grandchildren Mark Prince Ladroma, 9, and Grade 8 student Willy Boy Mag-aso.

The fire started in a house at Purok 3 in Bgy. Poblacion in Davao de Oro.

The blaze spread to the nearby commercial establishment that housed a lumber shop, a paint shop, and a tailoring shop, where the old woman and her grandsons were trapped.

The tailoring shop was owned by Ladrona’s father.

An investigation showed the victims were sleeping when the fire started.

The old woman, who was awakened by the extreme heat brought by the blaze, roused  from sleep tailor “Dodong,” who was with them sleeping in the tailoring shop.

“Dodong” immediately ran for his life while the old woman, who was trying to rescue her grandchildren, was left trapped inside with the kids.

Responding firefighters contained the blaze and found the charred  victims among the debris.
