
‘Ompong’ death toll still rising

THE death toll from powerful typhoon “Ompong” yesterday rose to 95, official Philippine National Police reports said.

Of the 95 fatalities, 79 were from Cordillera; 10 from Cagayan Valley; three from Central Luzon; two from Metro Manila; and one from Ilocos-Pangasinan region.
A report to PNP chief Director General Oscar Albayalde said that there were also 69 wounded: 42 from Cordillera region; 15 from Cagayan Valley; and 12 from Ilocos-Pangasinan region.
There were also 54 persons listed as missing: 50 from Cordillera region; and two each from Metro Manila and Ilocos-Pangasinan region.
The PNP National Operations Center report said that a total of 139,341 houses and other infrastructures were destroyed by powerful winds and heavy continuous rains brought about by “Ompong.”
