AT least 55 known drug offenders including a 17-year old male were hauled to jail by the Philippine National Police in a week-long anti-narcotics operations in the country which led in the seizure of over P106 million worth of shabu, PNP chief, General Archie Francisco F. Gamboa announced yesterday.
Latest to be arrested was the 17-year-old native of Siasi, Sulu who was jailed on Saturday afternoon after he sold over P7 million worth of shabu to an undercover officer in Barangay Sta. Barbara in Zamboanga City, reported Police Regional Office 9 director, Brigadier Gen. Jesus D. Cambay Jr.
A PNP statement issued yesterday said the intensified anti-illegal drugs operation saw the police conducting 25 buy-bust operations and searches which yielded a combined total of 7,606.69 grams of crystal meth and 239,500 fully-grown marijuana plants estimated to be worth around P99.7 million in the underground market.
The report however did not include the one in Zamboanga City.
Gen. Gamboa took note of the latest anti-drug offensive by PNP units even as most parts of the country are still under General Community Quarantine.
“The PNP has been consistent in its warning. No let-up in the pursuit of criminals. Our recent accomplishments nationwide validate the PNP’s determination to eradicate threats to the public’s safety and security,” he said.
Some of the anti-drug accomplishments mentioned by the PNP were an operation in Bgy. Gaya-Gaya in San Jose del Monte City in Bulacan which led in the killing of 35-year-old Anthony Valerio following a shootout with undercover officers. Eight other men were arrested by the Bulacan Police Provincial Office headed by Colonel Lawrence B. Cajipe after they were found engaged in a shabu sniffing session in the same area.
Another was a joint Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Quezon City Police District operation in the parking lot of a Ever Gotesco Mall 8:30 a.m. Saturday which resulted in the arrest of Army reservist, Private First Class Omar Pagayawan, 35, Amel Dipatuan Abdul, 30, and Junaid Desuma Londay, 26, after they conspired to sell a kilo of the so-called ‘poor man’s cocaine’ worth P6.8 million to a poseur.
National Capital Region Police Office director, Major Gen. Debold M. Sinas said that 29 other known drug offenders were arrested in a string of buy-bust operations in Q.C. and Valenzuela,Taguig, Marikina, Manila, Caloocan, San Juan, Taguig, Parañaque and Pasig cities this week.
In Tinglayan, Kalinga, local police troops overrun a clandestine marijuana plantation where they uprooted and destroyed around 240,000 fully-grown cannabis plants and seedlings worth nearly P48 million, said Cordillera police director, Brig. Gen. R’win S. Pagkalinawan.
Since June 1, nearly P8.433 billion worth of the so-called ‘poor man’s cocaine’ have been seized by the PNP Drug Enforcement Group headed by Brig. Gen. Romeo M. Caramat Jr. with the help of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency headed by Director General Wilkins M. Villanueva and other police territorial units, said Gen. Gamboa.
