A PHILIPPINE National Police Drug Enforcement Group (PNP-DEG)-led anti-narcotics operation in Iligan City on Sunday afternoon resulted in the arrest of two ‘high-value targets’ in Mindanao after they conspired to sell a kilo of shabu worth P6.8 million to an undercover officer, PNP-DEG director, Brigadier General Romeo M. Caramat Jr. told People’s Tonight.
In a report to PNP chief, General Archie Francisco F. Gamboa, the official identified the arrested suspects as Alex Lucero and Asnia Managa, residents of Barangay Poblacion, Guipos and Bgy. Tubod in Iligan City.
Caramat said members of the PNP-DEG Special Operations Unit 9, with the help of the Iligan City Police Station 10 arrested the two suspects during a sting in Bgy. Fuentes around 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
Recovered from the possession of the duo were 10 plastic packets with Chinese tea markings and each containing 100 grams of the so-called ‘poor man’s cocaine’ or a total of 1,000 grams worth P6.8 million in the underground market and the P2.6 million worth of boodle money topped by several marked bills.
Caramat said a black Toyota Vios with conduction sticker A5 S931which was used by the two suspects to transport the drugs was also seized by his men.
Both suspects are now under the custody of the PNP-DEG SOU 9 and will be facing non-bailable charges for sale and possession of dangerous drugs under Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Caramat said his men are currently conducting follow-up operations to identify and arrest the main source of the shabu recovered from the duo. He also cited the assistance provided them by the Police Regional Office 10 headed by Brig. Gen. Rolando B. Anduyan which resulted in the successful anti-narcotics operation.
