BAYAMBANG, Pangasinan -- A candidate for municipal councilor, who is a close ally of the incumbent mayor, was shot dead Friday morning while on his early morning jogging routine in Bgy. Zone 2, here.
Levin Napier Uy, of Bgy. Zone 1, was shot several times at close range. He sustained several gunshot wounds in different parts of the body. He was rushed to Bayambang District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival. His companion, identified as Cesar Salosagcol, also sustained gunshot wounds but survived and is being treated at the hospital.
Mayor Cesar Quiambao has offered a P2-million reward to anybody who could give information on the identity of the gunman or the mastermind that could lead to the resolution of the murder.
At the press conference held Friday afternoon, the emotional Quiambao strongly condemned the killing of Uy. He said one possible motive is politics.
He said it was a very bad incident which happened a day before his birthday (November 16). Saturday evening, the Paskuyan sa Bayambang was formally opened followed by a band concert.
“I cannot join the concert, I will not enjoy,” the mayor said, adding Uy was in fact the one in-charge in organizing the event.
Accordingly, Uy has been with Quiambao for the past 18 years as his political strategist. Uy also served as chairman of the Kasama Ka sa Barangay Foundation.
Meanwhile, Alaminos City Mayor Arthur Celeste strongly condemned the murder of Levin Uy.
At the press conference, he said. “Kami ay nandito para makidalamhati at sumampatiya sa pamilya niya. Ito ay isang napakalungkot na pangyayari. If this is related to politics, I pray that this is the last. Nakikiusap ako, Pangasinenses are peaceful people. Let us maintain that.”
Supt. Fidel Junio, Bayambang PNP chief, revealed at the press conference that they were given by higher headquarters one week to solve the crime.
“It is either I will make it or break it,” he said matter-of-factly. He assured all possible angles will be deeply investigated. He bared that the CCTV camera at the crime area captured the incident and this will be studied thoroughly; there are witnesses, however, their statements have yet been put into writing/affidavit,” he said.
