Pangasinan mayor’s car robbed in Ecija hotel parking

SAN JOSE CITY — A municipal mayor of Umingan, Pangasinan fell prey to suspected Bukas-Kotse gang members while his vehicle was parked at a parking lot of a hotel on Thursday night here.

City police head Lt. Col. Heryl Bruno identified the theft victim as municipal mayor Michael Carleone Cruz, 43, of Saliente St., Bgy. West Poblacion, Umingan, Pangasinan.

He said the incident transpired while the mayor’s vehicle, a black Wrangler jeep with conduction sticker MO-D205 was at the parking lot of Hotel Francesko along Maharlika Highway in Bgy. Malasin at 7:30 p.m.

Investigation showed that two unidentified motorcycle-riding men carted away from inside the jeep two bags owned by the victim and his driver identified as Noel Garcia, 36, of Bgy. Aduas Norte, Cabanatuan City.

Stolen were about P56,000 in cash, the mayor’s wallets, passport, driver’s license, BDO passbook, and his cal.40 Jerico pistol, including other pertinent documents.

Bruno said the vehicle’s right front passenger window was unknowingly left opened, enabling the suspects to perpetrate the robbery.

He said they are still conducting follow-up investigation for possible identification and arrest of the suspects.
