AGENTS of the Laguna Police Provincial Office on Saturday afternoon arrested an agent of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and his ‘asset’ for illegal possession of dangerous drugs and weapons and explosives, Laguna police director, Colonel Eleazar P. Matta said yesterday.

Intelligence Officer 1 Richard Reyes Gaufo, a 39-year old member of the PDEA Cordillera Regional Office and his ‘asset’ Joseph Martin Patrick Alfonso Borjal,39, a jobless resident of no. 11 Gregorio del Pilar Street in Barangay Pacita 1 in San Pedro City, Laguna were arrested at the house of the latter which was raided by the police at 2:15 p.m. Saturday, Matta said.

In a report to Police Regional Office 4-A director, Brigadier General Edward E. Carranza, the Laguna police director said that members of the Laguna PPO Provincial Intelligence Branch and the San Pedro City Police Station searched Borjal’s residence on the strength of a search warrant for violation of Republic Act 10591 issued by Judge Cynthia Marino, Ricablanca of the Sta. Cruz, Laguna Regional Trial Court Branch 27.

Matta said that PDEA agent Gaufo, a resident of Block 12, Lot 53, Saint Judge Village in San Fernando City, Pampanga and Borjal were arrested after officers recovered assorted weapons, 10 heat-sealed plastic sachets containing suspected shabu and various drug paraphernalia during the search.

The illegal weapons confiscated include one Glock 22 caliber 40 semi-automatic pistol with serial no. LRC278, one cal. .45 Thompson machine pistol with serial no. 40247, one cal. .45 Norinco pistol without serial number, 18 pieces of cal. .45 ammunition, 25 live cal. 40 ammunition, two Glock magazines, one outside holster, one fragmentation grenade, one cal. .45 magazine with a live bullet,  one backpack, two sling bags and Borjal’s fake PDEA identification card.

Matta said that Borjal is now facing criminal charges for usurpation of authority, illegal possession of drugs and violation of RA 10591 and RA 9516 or illegal possession of explosives.

The PDEA agent will be facing charges for illegal possession of firearms and explosives and drugs.

“The arrest of the said suspects will not only lessen the presence of loose firearms and shooting incidents in the province but will also lessen the proliferation of illegal drugs in the area attributed to the PDEA agent and his ‘asset’ who are abusing authority and power,” said Matta.
