The Philippine Army (PA) yesterday condemned the brutal killing of a village watchman who was a rebel returnee by his former comrades the other day in Antipolo City.
The victim was identified as Rodel Agudes, of legal age and resident of Sitio Apia, Barangay Calawis, Antipolo City.
According to Lt.Col. Christopher Diaz, commanding officer of Army’s 80th Infantry Battalion ( IB), the victim was killed at around 5 a.m. last Thursday while on duty as watchman.
Diaz said the victim was not given a chance by the communist group to live peacefully with his family after deciding to return to the fold of the law.
The commanding officer said the move of the New Peoples’ Army (NPA) is part of their organizational cleansing targeting former members whom they suspect to be giving information to the military.
“The NPAs once again proved that they are human rights violators who do not value human lives including those of the people who once supported their objectives,” Diaz said.
In line with this, Philippine Army’s 2nd Infantry Division (ID) commander Brig. Gen. Arnulfo Burgos jr. extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the victim.
“Our efforts in pursuing those who commit terror against the community will be relentless,” he said.
