PHILIPPINE National Police Anti-Kidnapping Group (PNP-AKG) director, Colonel Jonnel C. Estomo, yesterday announced the capture of three of the country’s most wanted kidnappers, one of them an Indian national linked to the kidnapping-for-ransom of at least six Indian nationals in Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon since 2008.
In a report to PNP chief, General Oscar D. Albayalde, the official said that Joginder Singh alias ‘Jinder Kang/Harry,’ a 38-year old resident of Barangay Bungabog, Purok 1 in Camalig, Albay was arrested by members of the PNP-AKG Special Operations Unit with the assistance of the local police around 6:15 a.m. last Friday.
The most wanted Indian kidnapper tried to commit suicide by slashing his wrist with an improvised weapon while undergoing interrogation at the PNP-AKG headquarters in Camp Crame but alert AKG guards discovered his attempt and brought him to the PNP General Hospital where he underwent treatment and is now in a safe condition, the Journal Group learned.
The Indian national was arrested in connection with the kidnapping of Anial Kumar Sohal on August 13, 2017. Estomo said Sohal’s abductors demanded P20 million for his safe release but lowered their demand to P2 million during an initial bargaining with the victim’s family.
After a series of negotiations, the kidnappers accepted the P935,000 cash offered by Sohal’s family.
During the ensuing anti-kidnapping operation launched by the PNP-AKG, three of the kidnappers identified as Inderjit Singh alias ‘Goldie,’ Rashper Singh and Ferdinand Reyes were killed. Recovered from the slain kidnappers were a cache of high-powered weapons.
Last July, PNP-AKG operatives also arrested Mandeep Singh alias Deepy Sidhu/Commando,’ another member of the KFR gang, during an operation in Barangay La Mesa in Calamba City, Laguna.
The suspects are believed to be involved in the kidnapping-for-ransom of six Indian nationals identified as Sanjev Kumar, Balwinder Kumar, Sushil Kumar, Jagsir Singh, one Sodhi and Pankaj Luther.
The other two arrested most wanted kidnappers were identified by Estomo as Esperidio Alastra alias ‘Junie,’ a 44-year old laborer and Saturnina Alastra,64, of Don Carlos and Maramag, Bukidnon respectively.
The PNP-AKG director said that the two were arrested by his men on Monday in Purok 6, Sitio Garcia, Bgy. San Antonio West in Don Carlos, Bukidnon on the strength of a warrant of arrest for kidnapping-for-ransom and serious illegal detention issued by Judge Evelyn Gamotin-Nery of the Cagayan de Oro City RTC Branch 19 with no bali reommended.
