Puerto Galera drug trafficker killed in shootout

December 02, 2018

A buy-bust in Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro on Saturday led to the killing of an armed drug dealer, Police Regional Office 4-B director Chief Superintendent Tomas C. Apolinario Jr. said yesterday.

Benjo Gayod, of Sitio Kaber in Bgy. Sabang, Puerto Galera had just sold a packet of shabu to a poseur when he sensed a drug sting.

Gayod pulled out a .38 semi-automatic pistol and shot the undercover cop but missed prompting back-up officers to return fire hitting him.

Apolinario said the suspect died while being taken to the Puerto Galera Hospital.

The official said a record check on Gayod showed that he was one of the six inmates who bolted the San Pedro City police detention facility in Laguna last May 2017.

He was later monitored to have resumed his drug activities in Puerto Galera triggering the entrapment operation.

Recovered from the suspect were 13 plastic sachets of shabu, a marked P1,000 bill he received from the poseur and a loaded .38 pistol.
