A MAN wanted for a rape case in Bicol with no bail recommended on Wednesday was arrested by agents of the National Capital Region Office of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group when he showed up to meet a policewoman whom he tried to date following their exchanges of Facebook messages, CIDG-NCR chief, Colonel Arnold Thomas C. Ibay told the Journal Group yesterday.
Rex Gonzaga, a 34-year old resident of Barangay Iyagan, Baao, Camarines Sur who has been tagged as the province’s 10th most wanted person showed up in Pook Pag-asa in Batasan Hills, Quezon City to have an ‘eyeball’ with his Facebook friend at 5 p.m. Wednesday and was promptly arrested by waiting CIDG-NCR operatives, said Ibay.
According to the official, they went after the suspect following an intelligence packet provided by the PNP Intelligence Group headed by Brigadier General Joseph Ulysses C. Gohel.
Ibay said that one of their female agents contacted the suspect thru Facebook Messenger and lured him into believing she was looking for a date.
Ibay said the scheme was so effective that the wanted rape suspect showed up in an area in Batasan Hills to meet his would-be beautiful date.
“The suspect really believed his date wanted to spend a day with him not knowing he would be soon spending the rest of his life in jail while on trial,” said the CIDG-NCR chief.
Ibay said that the suspect was arrested on the strength of a warrant for rape issued by Judge Martessa Nuylan-Rodriquez of the Iriga City Regional Trial Court Branch 57 with no bail recommended.
The suspect is now being held at the CIDG-NCR lock-up facility pending his turnover to the Bicol court.
