A former teacher of a school allegedly being run by New Peoples’ Army (NPA) yesterday surrendered to government troops in Surigao del Sur.
This was confirmed by Lt. Jonald D. Romorosa, civil military officer of 36th Infantry Battalion of Philippine Army.
Romorosa identified the teacher as a certain alias Val, 25, single, Monobo and resident of So. Baroboan, Bgy Carromata, San Miguel, Surigao del Sur.
Val is a former Milisyang Bayan (MB) of the North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee (NEMRC).
Romoroso said Val used to be a teacher of the Tribal Filipino Program of Surigao del Sur (TRIFPSS) .
When he surrendered, he also turned over his carbine and magazine with ammunition.
The report said Val was recruited as TRIFPSS teacher from May 20, 2012, to Jan 25, 2017.
He was promised by his recruiters that his families will be financially supported while he is teaching and serving the armed struggle.
Due to the non-operationalization of the TRIFPSS schools at So Baroboan because of the campaign of the 36IB and the IP leaders in partnership with the DepEd, alias Val decided to continue to serve the armed struggle as Milisyang Bayan from February 2017 to March 2019.
Accordingly, Val surrendered because he wants to live in peace and harmony without fear of the security forces.
He added that he also wants to help the government achieve genuine peace and preserve the cultural integrity of every IP community.
Lt.Col. Xerxes Trinidad, 36IB commanding officer, said the surrender of Val is a clear manifestation that the NPA is using TRIPFSS schools as breeding ground for their future cadres and fighters.
“Alias Val is proof that there is a link and support system between the TRIFPSS schools and the NPA Communist Terrorist Group,” Trinidad said.
He added that the radicalization process is being thought at TRIPFSS schools by poisoning the innocent minds and instilling hatred against the government.
TRIFPSS schools are at the center of CPP-NPA bases for exploitation of the IPs who are being radicalized at a very young age by CPP-NPA supporters who pose as concerned teachers.
