Remnant of Islamic State of Iraq and Syria-Maute, New People’s Army leader surrender to gov’t forces

TWO former enemies of the State, including a remnant of the ISIS-inspired Maute Terror Group (MTG), and a leader of New People’s Army (NPA) surrendered to government forces the other day in Lanao del Sur and Zamboanga del Sur.

This was confirmed yesterday by Capt. Clint Antipala, spokesperson of 1st Infantry Division of the Philippine Army.

The Maute-ISIS remnant was identified only as alias “Budo”, not his real name, who surrendered to Lt. Col. Edgar Allan Villanueva of the Army’s 49th Infantry Battalion  on Wednesday in  Butig, Lanao del Sur.

Accordingly, Budo was involved in the harassment of Pantar Detachment in June 2017 at the height of the Marawi Siege to divert the attention of military while the bulk of Maute-ISIS terrorist were fighting in the main battle area.

In Zamboanga del Sur, a team leader of Baking Squad of the Western Mindanao Party Committee surrendered to elements of the Army’s 10th IB.

The NPA leader, identified only as Jhon Jhon, surrendered to Lt. Col. Ryan Severo, commander of the 10th IB.

The Philippine Army  vowed that NPA rebels who decided to return to the folds of the law will be enrolled to the Enhanced Comprehensive Integration Program (ECLIP).
