SUSPECTED New People’s Army guerillas on Monday set off bombs on a road killing a policeman and injuring three others in Magpet, North Cotabato.

Policemen were in two police vehicles which were struck by two improvised explosive devices planted by the rebels  on the road in Purok 4, Kabisig, Poblacion Magpet at 5:45 p.m. on Monday.

PO1 Christopher Anador suffered serious head injuries and died while undergoing treatment at the Kidapawan City Hospital.

Two others, PO1 Stephenson Parreno and PO1 Mark Vincent Capilitan, are  undergoing treatment at the Kidapawan Doctors Hospital.

A third victim identified only as  PO1 Lechago was declared in stable condition.

The victims, all members of the Cotabato Police Provincial Mobile Force Company, were on  routine patrol when they were attacked by members of the NPA Guerrilla Front 53 led by Kumander Alon.

PO1 Anador was driving one of the mobile cars that bore the brunt of the explosions.

Although wounded by the blast, the officers managed to return fire forcing the guerrillas to flee.

The roadside bombing was believed to be an NPA retaliatory attack against government troops in the area.

Earlier, soldiers from the Army’s 19th Infantry Battalion shot dead an armed NPA member in a gunbattle in Bgy. Bagumbayan in Magpet.

One trooper was also wounded in the gunfight.
