Rookie officer drowns during training in Batangas

A YOUNG police officer on Sunday drowned while undergoing combat swimming  exercises at the training ground of the Special Action Force in Calatagan, Batangas.

The victim was identified as Pat. Manny Jose Baldonado, 27, a resident of Bgy Rizal, Santiago City, Isabela.

Police Major Joey Aniban, course director of the SAF Commando Class 85-2018, said Baldonado was undergoing practical exercise on diagnostic combat swim at the SAF training Branch Annex in Bgy. Baha, Calatagan, Batangas when the victim drowned at 9:10 a.m. on Sunday.

The combat swim training was facilitated by the SAFTB waterborne instructors.

The victim jumped to the water but failed to resurface, prompting fellow officers to rescue him.

Instructors performed first aid on the victim before he was rushed by PNPA medical team to Metro Balayan Medical Center, where he was declared dead on arrival.
