Soldiers discover New People´s Army lair,‘hospital’ in Agusan del Sur

A REPORTED lair and improvised hospital of the New People´s Army (NPA) was discovered by Army soldiers in Buenavista, Agusan del Sur, military officials reported yesterday.

Official statements issued by the Army´s 23rd Infantry Battalion said the hideout and hospital by the Communist Party of the Philippines-NPA was discovered last Wednesday around 9:30 a.m., in Sitio Bulak, Barangay Lower Olabe, Agusan del Sur.

Recovered from the said hideout were two Garand rifles and several vials of medicines. The cave is suspected to be used as hospital where the rebels perform operations as manifested by the kind of medicines found and recovered in the area.

The Army personnel from the 23IB conducted security patrol in response to the reports from concerned citizens regarding the location and activities of the CNTs. While the troops were moving towards the rebel´s location, they discovered a cave.

The soliders said the lair has an estimated area of 40x30 meters which can accommodate 15 persons.

After scouring the cave, the government troops recovered two Garand rifles, 90 pieces of medicine (Atropine Sulfate) and subversive CNT documents.

Meanwhile, Lt. Col. Francisco L. Molina Jr., Commanding Officer, 23IB said: “We express our gratitude to the concerned citizens for providing information regarding the suspicious individuals and CNT activities in the area. Through the cooperation of the residents, we can easily thwart the hostile plans of the CNTs.” Molina added.
