GENERAL NATIVIDAD, Nueva Ecija -- It was a sad Christmas for this family of eight when they met an accident here on Monday night, killing an 11-year-old girl and injuring the other seven, including a five-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl.
Police said the vehicular mishap occurred along the provincial road in Bgy. Talabutab Norte at 8:15 p.m.
Senior Supt. Leon Victor Z. Rosete, provincial police chief, said the accident transpired after the Honda TMX 155 tricycle the victims were riding was rear-ended by a black Toyota Revo driven by an alleged intoxicated driver identified as Marciano Alcaraz. Investigation showed the Honda TMX 155 tricycle driven by Bayani Forbillas Jr. was traversing the provincial road headed north when the said vehicle was bumped from behind by the Toyota Revo driven by the suspect, believed to be under the influence of liquor.
As a result, the eight victims were thrown off their vehicle, causing death to one child and serious injuries to the other seven.
Police identified the fatality as Yamilia Medina, 11, a student while those injured were Forbillas, 42, Orlando Cabanada, 62, Teresita Cabanada, 61, Juvy Bonilla, 55, Lovely Keith Medina, 10, Rebecca Medina, 65, and June Clyde Forbillas, 5, all of Bgy. Talabutab Norte.
Rosete said the suspect was subsequently arrested by responding lawmen.
He will be slapped with charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and multiple serious physical injuries with damage to property before the provincial prosecutor’s office.
