POLICE on Thursday arrested the mayor of Lingig, Surigao del Sur after a raid in his residence resulted in the recovery of suspected illegal weapons and drugs as well as P2 million in P100 bills which are believed being used by the official to buy the votes of his constituents, Caraga police director, Brigadier General Gilberto DC Cruz said.
The raid at the house of Mayor Roberto M. Luna Jr. resulted in the recovery of a Colt caliber .45 pistol, a 9mm magazine with several live ammunition, several .45 magazines with bullets, a KG9 machine pistol magazine, a rifle grenade, dried marijuana leaves and stalks and the huge amount of money, said Cruz.
“Our operatives also seized P2 million in cash believed to be used in vote buying as the P100 bills were placed in white envelopes with sample ballots,” said the PRO13 director.
According to Cruz, combined agents of the PRO13 Regional Intelligence Division, the Lingig Municipal Police Station and the Philippine National Police Special Action Force and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group stormed the mayor’s house in barangay poblacion at around 3:20 a.m. yesterday.
He said that Luna is a ‘high-value’ drug target included in the list of President Duterte. He added that the National Police Commission in Caraga region has also released a resolution withdrawing Mayor Luna’s deputation over the police.
