Suspected terrorist nabbed in GenSan

PHILIPPINE National Police - Intelligence Group operatives on Tuesday arrested a wanted terror bomber in General Santos City.

A report to PNP-IG director Chief Supt.  Edmund Gonzales said that suspect Jamio Sala alias “Jamiung/Jum-Jum,”  was arrested in an operation in Osmena St., Bgy. Dadiangas at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Sala was arrested on the strength of Martial Law Order 02.

The suspect yielded a fragmentation grenade.

Joint operatives of the Regional Intelligence Unit 12 led by Supt. Christopher Bermudez  and the Police Regional Office 12 Regional Intelligence Division and the General Santos City Police Office under Chief Supt. Eliseo Rasco arrested the suspect.

According to the PNP-IG, Sala was a member of the defunct Ansar Khilafa Philippines founded by the late Mohammad Jaafar Maguig alias “Commander Tokboy Maguid.”

The suspect was known for his close association with Commander Salahuddin Hassan, the head of a terror group plotting to bomb some targets in General Santos City during Yuletide Season.

Sala was one of the gunmen wanted for involvement in an armed attack in Poblacion, Maasim Sarangani province in August 2008; an April 26, 2010 roadside bombing in Malapatan, Sarangani; a bomb attack in front of the General Santos City Hall that injured seven persons on September 16, 2014; a grenade-throwing incident on June 20, 2016, a day before the Massaim Founding Anniversary which killed one policeman and injured several others; and the foiled December 11, 2016 bombing of a Christmas Tree lighting at the Kiamba municipal plaza.

The suspect is being held at the RIU12 headquarters undergoing further questioning.
