A MAN on Wednesday died while 11 others, including four children, were injured when a Sports Utility Vehicle plowed into the amusement center of a supermarket in Carmona, Cavite.
Killed was Rollen Sartiel, 22, while the wounded were identified as Emma Hunsay, 74; Myrna Doctor, 51; Nina Marie Morello, 27; Glennis Gianan, 40; Jinky Oborza, 27; Rhalf Oborza, 4; Florabel Medina, 40; Mark Anthony Gonzales, 34; Mark Leo Ace Gonzales, 4; Jazz Lano, 6; and Cian Laurora Sartiel, 3.
Responding members of the Carmona Municipal Police Office arrested the SUV driver, Rosendo Mamucod, 66.
The suspect is facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and slight physical injuries and damage to property.
Mamucod was parking his Mitsubishi Montero at the Persons With Disabilities slot near a Fun House in WalterMart building in Governor’s Drive when the vehicle suddenly accelerated and plowed into the kiddie fun area, where the victims were playing, at 1:25 p.m. on Wednesday.
Sartiel died on the spot while the others sustained injuries.
The wounded victims were brought to the Carmona Medical Center for treatment.
Police are investigating if the incident was a case of driver’s error or sudden unintended acceleration.
