GAPAN City -- A teenager shooting a bird with an air rifle accidentally hit and wounded a 50-year-old motorcycle-riding man who was passing down the road reportedly on his way home on Wednesday afternoon.

Wounded was Rodolfo Villaseñor, of Purok 5, Bgy. Mangino, this city.

The accidental shooting occurred at 4 p.m. when 18-year-old suspect Dexter Longalong, helper, a neighbor of the victim, shot a bird using his airgun.

The victim, who was then driving his motorcycle on his way home, was accidentally hit in the neck after the suspect fired his airgun, said city police head Supt. Ponciano Zafra.

Zafra said his men, who were then conducting Oplan Sita operations along with barangay men in the area, were able to apprehend the suspect and seize the airgun used in the shooting.

He said the wounded victim was rushed to Good Samaritan Hospital and later transferred to the Gonzales General Hospital in nearby San Leonardo town for further treatment.

Corresponding criminal charges are being readied for filing against the suspect before the City Prosecutor’s Office here.
