A hardcore member of ISIS inspired Maute Terror Group (MTG) surrendered to government forces the other day in Lanao del Sur.
This was confirmed yesterday by Captain Arvin Encinas, spokesman of Armed Forces of the Philippines ( AFP)-Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom).
Encinas identified the former terrorist as Saifoden Macarqya Maute, 36,resident of Barangay Tagoranao, Sultan Dumalondong, Lanao del Sur.
Maute surrendered at around 10 a.m. to the troops of 49th Infantry Battalion in Barangay Poblacion Bayabao, Butig, Lanao del Sur.
He turned over one M79 Grenade Launcher and one 40mm High Explosive to government forces.
Accordingly, Maute was recruited by DI/ISIS/Maute Group sub-leader Mohammad Khayam Romato Maute, alias Otto, who was killed during the Marawi siege.
Saifoden was involved in fighting against the government troops during the focused military operations conducted by the 103rd Brigade in 2016.
“We would like to attribute this accomplishment to the MILF Joint Ceasefire Monitoring Posts (JCMP) representative Maliksaif Masheda,” Maj. Gen. Roberto Ancan, Commander of the Joint Task Force ZamPeLan, said.
Said personality is currently undergoing custodial debriefing at the headquarters of 49IB.
“With the positive results of our campaigns, we are more motivated to intensify our operations by employing the whole-of-nation approach because we do not want to destroy the trust the people have bestowed upon us,” Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, Commander of the Western Mindanao Command said.
