A TEXT message to Philippine National Police chief Director General Oscar Albayalde about a big-time drug trafficker in Balamban, Cebu and his protector who happened to be a local barangay councilor triggered an operation that resulted in the arrest of the two, the Journal Group learned yesterday.
According to Police Regional Office 7 director Chief Supt. Debold Sinas, the message forwarded to him by the PNP chief started a massive surveillance operation, which ended in a raid on Tuesday afternoon.
Members of the Cebu Police Provincial Office’s Intelligence Branch, Drug Enforcement Unit and Provincial Mobile Force Company and the Balamban Municipal Police Station led by Chief Insp. Christopher Natnat raided the house of suspected drug dealer Allan Lopez in Bgy. Baliwagan.
Lopez was arrested after officers found an improvised 12-gauge shotgun with three live ammunition and 10 medium-sized plastic sachets containing around 250 grams of shabu valued at P1.7 million in his house.
A follow-up raid at the house of Lopez’ alleged protector identified as Alfonzo Buot alias “Jun Buit,” a councilman of Bgy. Baliwagan, led to the recovery of a cal. .45 pistol with magazine containing three bullets.
Both suspects are being held at the Cebu PPO headquarters for further investigation.
Lopez will be charged for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and RA 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013.
Buit will be charged for violation of RA 10591.
