Trike driver dies, rider hurt in Lemery mishap

LEMERY, Batangas -- A 43-year-old motorcycle driver was declared dead at the hospital after the vehicle he was driving accidentally collided with a truck in Bgy. Dahilig the other day,

Police identified the fatality as Leodegario Sarmiento Alilio, 64, of Patutong Malaki South, Tagaytay City.

The truck driver, identified as Romel Laruga Oco, 43, of Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo, Baylin Alfonzo, Cavite, was unharmed.

Police investigators said a Suzuki tricycle without plate number driven by Alilio was traversing along the highway in Bgy. Dahilig at around 4:45 p.m. on October 31 when it swerved to the opposite lane and accidentally collided with an approaching Isuzu Elf truck (RFX 903) driven by Oco.

Both vehicles incurred damages while the MC driver was rushed to Batangas Provincial Hospital in Lemery town where he was declared dead on arrival by an attending physician.

A lone passenger of the tricycle, identified as Renato Bosque Borillo, also sustained injuries and was brought to the same hospital.

Oco was placed under police custody for further investigation.

Meanwhile, the San Pascual Municipal Police Station personnel arrested in a buy-bust two drug offenders, identified as Jennylyn Andal Ludovici, alias Jen, and Rodney Peter Gonzales Ilagan, both newly-identified drug personalities, at 10:15 p.m. the other day in Bgy. Poblacion.

They recovered five heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets of suspected shabu and a marked P500 bill.

Police said the arrested suspects were involved in illegal drug trade, based on information from clustered leaders and the Barangay Information Network.
