STA. ROSA, Nueva Ecija – A tricycle driver ferrying a female high school student on her way home was shot dead by two unidentified motorcycle-riding assassins in a gun attack which police believed could be triggered by a long-standing family feud.
Police chief Major Steven O. Dela Cruz identified the slain victim as Arnel Abiog, 42, single, of Sitio Kanto, Bgy. Soledad, this town.
He was driving his black Kawasaki Bajaj tricycle with Renalyn Mauro, 17, student of Holy Cross College, as his passenger when he was waylaid at 6:30 p.m.
Upon reaching the vicinity of Talens Construction Corporation in Bgy. Soledad, Dela Cruz said two men on board a black Kawasaki Bajaj motorcycle came from behind and its back-rider shot the victim repeatedly in the head and other parts of the body, causing his instantaneous death.
Dela Cruz said they are initially looking at revenge or family feud as possible motive behind the killing.
“Maaaring gantihan ito dahil sa away pamilya. Itong biktima ay pang-apat na daw sa magkakapatid na napapatay, siya na lang ang panghuling natitira sa kanilang apat,”Dela Cruz told this writer yesterday over the phone.
