SECURITY forces on Wednesday captured a wanted Abu Sayyaf bandit in an operation in Naga, Zamboanga Sibugay, Police Regional Office 9 director, Brigadier General Froilan F. Quidilla said yesterday.
The official identified the arrested suspect as Isnaji Hassim, a 29-year old resident of Barangay Bangkaw-Bangkaw in Naga municipality.
Quidilla said members of the PRO9 Regional Mobile Force Battalion, Naga Municipal Police Station, the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, Regional Intelligence Division 9 and the Philippine Army caught the suspect during a raid in his house at 9:40 a.m.
He said recovered during the raid conducted on the basis of two search warrants for illegal possession of firearms and explosives were one BAR automatic rifle with two magazines containing 11 live ammunition, one fragmentation grenade, one plastic bottle containing a suspected improvised explosive device, electrical blasting cap, 12 blasting caps, three detonating cords and one 40mm live ammunition.
The search warrants were issued by the Kabasalan, Zamboanga Sibugay 3rd Municipal Circuit Trial Court.
According to Quidilla, the captured suspect is believed to be a member of a Basilan-based Abu Sayyaf faction headed by Furuji Indama. He is also believed to be a close associate of the elusive terror leader Hashim Saripada and is included in the martial law targets of government troops in Mindanao.
On orders of PNP-CIDG director, Major General Amador V. Corpus, the suspect was immediately taken to the local CIDG headquarters for documentation and filing of charges illegal possession of explosives.
