SECURITY forces on Thursday afternoon captured two suspected New People’s Army hitmen in Bukidnon following an encounter in Valencia City, Police Regional Office 10 director, Brigadier General Rolando B. Anduyan said yesterday.
The official identified the two suspects as Frederick Tagurda alias ‘Reck’ and Pedeng Matikinong alias ‘Santo,’ both described as members of an NPA hit squad locally known as ‘Sparu’ apart from serving as ‘revolutionary tax’ collectors of the movement.
Anduyan said that the two were believed to be working under the NPA’s Guerrilla Front 6 under one Jigger Tumbalang alias’ Ka War.’
The Northern Mindanao police director said that members of the Valencia City Police Station, the Army’s 88th Infantry Battalion and the Military Intelligence Group 10 of the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines launched the operation to arrest the suspects in Purok 12 in Barangay Tongan-Tongan, Valencia City at 2 p.m. Thursday.
During the operation, the suspects engaged officers in a shootout. Both were wounded as the lawmen returned fire.
Anduyan said that recovered from the possession of the two were two loaded caliber .45 pistols, 13 live ammunition, one MK-1 fragmentation grenade, four aluminum blasting caps, assorted medicines and personal things and an XRM motorcycle.
The two are now undergoing questioning by the Valencia City police and military investigators, the official said.
