Troops get Abu Sayyaf Group firearms, boat

GOVERNMENT forces recovered two high powered firearms and a motorboat owned and used by the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) in their terroristic activities during their operation last Monday in Banguingui, Sulu.

This was confirmed by Lt. Col. Gerald Monfort, spokesman of Joint Task Force Sulu.

Monfort said  JTF Sulu recovered the firearms and the motorboat  from its keeper during their operation in Barangay Taingan Bakkao, Banguingui, Sulu.

Recovered were one M16A1 rifle  with one long magazine, one caliber . 45 pistol with one magazine and one motorized banca known as jungkong with 16 HP Honda Engine.

The report said the  motorized banca was used in transporting the ASGs several times to escape from pursuing government forces in mainland Sulu.

BGen. Divino Rey Pabayo Jr, Commander of JTF Sulu said that the recent involvement of the local population in the campaign against the ASG is a clear indication that the terrorists are losing the support of the public.
