SAN ANTONIO, Nueva Ecija -- A truck driver was arrested while his two cohorts are now being hunted for allegedly stealing more than half-a-million pesos worth of merchandise to be delivered to customers in various areas in Nueva Ecija and nearby areas.
Police chief Maj. Arnel Aguilar identified the arrested driver as Erwin Taguiam, 36, of Bgy. Poblacion West, Aliaga, Nueva Ecija and his two cohorts who remain at large as Randy Lising, helper, of Bgy. Niyugan, Jaen and Emma Obeja, of Bgy. Poblacion, Aliaga.
Aguilar identified the owner of the stolen merchandise as businessman Armando Cruz, also the municipal budget officer of Bgy. Julo.
Cruz, who owns a trucking service business said the heist was discovered by his secretary Judith Angeles, who learned of the suspects’ modus and immediately informed Cruz about it.
During deliveries since January this year, he said the suspects took several grocery items and appliances worth more than P500,000 to be delivered to their customers in Savemore and SM branches and then sold it to prospective buyers.
“Bawat biyahe nila nagbebenta sila, nakapagtatabi sila ng P4,000, P6,000, pinakamalaki ay P14,000 at pinaghahatian nila ito,” Cruz said.
“May butas doon sa truck at doon lumulusot para nakawin ang paninda upang ibenta ito,” he added.
Cruz said he would also seek the help of the police in going after those who bought the stolen merchandise.
Aguilar said Taguiam was nabbed during followup operations in Cabanatuan city.
