Truck-riding child dies after head hits gate in Benguet

A 3-YEAR-OLD boy who was riding an Isuzu flexi truck with his parents on Sunday died when his head hit the steel gate of an establishment in Tuba, Benguet.

Cherye Cleveland Figueras, son of Regional Mobile Force Batallion 15 - Police Regional Office Cordillera member P/SSg. Generosa Langbis Feguiras, was declared dead on arrival at the Baguio General Hospital.

The tragedy happened at Kabuyao, Mt. Sto. Tomas, Poblacion in Tuba, Benguet at 3:52 p.m. on Sunday.

The Figueras family were on their way to Baguio City when the boy met the accident.

The child was riding the truck driven by P/Cpl. Eric Binbinon Accatan, 29, of the Explosives and Ordnance Division (EOD) and K-9 Unit of the PROCOR, when the boy hang his head out of the vehicle’s left passenger side window.

The Figueras couple failed to notice their child hanging his head out of the window until the boy’s head struck the gate of a company.

Panicked, the parents rushed the boy to the nearest hospital, where he died.

The policeman truck driver was brought to the Tuba Municipal Police Station facing reckless imprudence resulting in homicide charges.
